Because of the massive scale of a Sphere, 130k+ pixels and the level of detail which can be seen through our immersive 32x zoom experiences you want your background to be as large as possible.
We support various resolutions as we understand the limitations on hardware may not allow you to create an image at our highest supported resolution and we are actively working on ways to improve the ease-of-use when it comes to background creation, but for now it needs to be uploaded as a single image.
If you are able to produce a single large image we support PNG and JPG. Image width can be any size from 32000-131072px, height should be set to a quarter of the image width (8000-32768px).
An important note to remember is a portion of the top and bottom of your background will be cropped when generating your Sphere. This can be seen in Curator by opening the layers panel and switching the 'Guides' toggle on. You can also see the safe area in our background template file which you can download below.
For a more easily accessible approach, you can also upload a multi-page PDF.
If you have access to your own editing software then download our Illustrator template below, build your background anyway you like and the place it in to our template and export a multi-page pdf, we recommend using at least 6k image assets for your background if working with photographic imagery.
Once complete, upload that PDF to your Space. Our system will stitch the image back together during the upload process.
Because of the size, backgrounds can take a while before they are processed and ready to use in Curator. We wil notify you when a low-resolution version is ready to use and the platform will continue to build the high-resolution variant which will update automaitcally in Curator once complete.
If you get stuck at any point, please feel free to contact our product team by emailing support@sphere.co.uk and we will be happy to help.
To create your own Sphere background, use the file below as a starting template for the multi-page pdf. Follow our guide above for more information on using the template file.
If you don't have access to Adobe Illustrator or similar and you're not able to create your own multi-page pdf to use as a background, please download one of our solid colour samples to help you get started with creating your first Sphere
