What is Generative AI?

Generative AI refers to a type of artificial intelligence that uses deep learning models to create original content that is similar to the input data it has been trained on. Unlike other forms of AI that classify or make predictions based on input data, generative AI creates new data, such as images, music, or text, by learning patterns from existing data and generating new examples that fit those patterns. It has applications in areas such as content creation, artistic expression, and data augmentation.

Why use Generative AI imagery in Cozmos

We understand that not everyone has access to the necessary skills or creative software required to craft the large format background images which a sphere requires, this is something we are actively addressing within our tools and in a future release the creation of sphere backgrounds will become much easier and less reliant on large format imagery.

We feel that AI tools like Midjourney could serve two core purposes for the creation of spheres;

• Quick exploration of concepts before you move to final design

• Allow non-designers to easily build and publish spheres

The second point is very important to us, as a platform one of Cozmos' core goals is to unlock creativity for everyone, regardless of technical ability, and Generative AI is method which is currently facilitating this for non creatives.

The impact Generative AI is having on the creative industry

It's important for us to mention that as a business we firmly believe that no technology will ever replace the true creativity and craft which is produced by human beings. We are aware of the grey area surrounding copyright and ownership of generative art and how advancements in this field are affecting the livelihoods of artists who have spent years studying and perfecting their crafts.

But we must, as a technology company also be realistic about what people are using to create visual assets and this is the reason for writing this guide. Not to promote the use of AI but to let anyone who wishes to use it, optimise it for use in Cozmos.

Image Resolution

The one thing to keep in mind when using AI to generate backgrounds for a sphere is the resolution limits which products like Midjourney have in comparison to the resolution required for the best sphere experience.

Because we support zoom like no other digital platform you will want to upload the highest resolution possible. If the results you achieve with AI programmes are not getting the quality of zoom experience you want, we suggest using a tool like Gigapixel to upscale your imagery before uploading to Cozmos.
